Words & Music by Tim Eddy

A Note from Tim

My truth is to the truth as my dog is to the wolf.

Tim Eddy’s Debut Album

“With his debut album,Tim Eddy has crafted a soundscape that breathes a specific palette of cinematic colors. These songs feel as welcome in the unglaciated coulees of Wisconsin as they would in Texas hill country. Tim effortlessly paints the complete arc of a blue collar work day, the struggle and the loss, the contemplation, the melancholic solitude that asks for answers to the larger mysteries. Delivered with a delicate vocal timbre that perfectly compliment his vulnerabilities, these tracks are stories first…tone poems. Stories with a lyrical depth that can only be shown through the eyes of someone who has waited their whole life to open their sanguine heart. These are songs heard first by the lonely horizon. These are songs originally sung to the open road. These are songs for an imagined lover, an intended hope, a yearning. These songs are searching, searching for the root of all things.” -Peter Engen

Kris Delmhorst and I met on the road a long time ago. On a flight across the ocean we started a conversation that never ended, and then we came home and got married, and started a family. We toured together occasionally, but for the most part kept home and away separate, weighing in on the work in all phases, dividing up the chores, and tag-teaming civilian life. She's one of the best musicians I know, and no one writes deeper or more organic songs, songs that involve every level of consciousness, and trade on a kind visceral knowledge. I spend a lot of my writing life feeling jealous. She has God's phone number, but I always have to try to run into him at the bar.

Her new album LONG DAY IN THE MILKY WAY www.krisdelmhorst.com/store comes out today (August 14, 2020), and I think it’s her best. In a long career we breathe in so many influences, and we try to breathe out again a syncretic thing. Inspire and respire, but it isn’t usually so clean. Some records only point toward where you were headed, while the best of them arrive ahead of you, fully grown. This is one of those. Everything Kris ever made is here, but there’s a newness and a startling wisdom, and a cosmic consciousness too.

If you don’t know Kris’s work, this is where you should start. The album is perfectly suited to our moment. It rocks where it should, swaggers where it needs to, whispers, and cajoles. The band is outrageous (the bass player impeccable), and the impossible trio of backup singers - Rose Polenzani, Annie Lynch, and Rose Cousins - forms an otherwordly Greek chorus qualifying all proceedings. It's an elegant gesture of hope and pathos for a dark time, and a hymn to the massive, granitic patience of the good. Go find it, and then share it, and then I guess maybe buy a tote bag?
